Low redline gave me a sad.

Looks like your oil is down to 50%. And it's all being pushed to the back of the engine thanks to that sweet, sweet M tuning.

It’s cold, OK. It grows, I promise.

Nice of them to include a diagram to tell the driver where the oil is.

I’m no mechanic but it looks like your engine is half empty. You should top off your engine.
Hope it's something minor.

Engine life: 50%. Prepare charger.

Wait, on second glance, this appears to be a diesel. So there's oil EVERYWHERE!

Wait, I thought BMW finally fixed that oil starvation issue?

Don’t look like an M with a 4500 redline

That's exactly what I said in another comment...diesel M?

O
nvm then.

Diesel is the new M. It'll make more sense when they release the M4 active tourer. 5 doors and FWD will be the platform M fans have been waiting for.

Maybe it's just the BMW Coolness Meter. Looks like a tach, but I've been wrong before.

So you need to make a circle around a triangle, then paint half your engine yellow.

:( fingers crossed for ya bud. Also, if not in warranty, please go to a good shop so you don't deal with BS.

Throttle Actuator?
![]() 09/01/2016 at 18:25 |
|
I hope not, I already had one replaced and the messages on the screen this time were “DSC failure” and “reduced emissions”

You should use the shop we drove past all the time to Northpoint: http://www.harrisonmotorsports.com/

DSC failure? Maybe just a bad wheel speed sensor then.
Does it have reduced power or is it in limp mode?
![]() 09/01/2016 at 20:09 |

It went into limp mode

Was the motor cold? Mine went into limp mode once with that DSC message once after the operator put it in M mode straight out of the parking garage and gave it a little too much throttle. When said operator got home, I went out and test drove it fairly aggressively and couldn’t repeat the issue. I think because of the heavy oil they’re just a little weird sometimes when cold. Impossible to tell without scanning it with the BMW tool, OBD II scanners just give a generic code. If you’re concerned, pay the $50 and have it scanned which will tell you the exact issue.

It wasnt the first time I drove it that day, but it wasn’t warm when I started it. I think once it warmed up and if I had to try and restart it, it might have gone out of limp mode, but I think some sensor broke.

So as it turns out, it was the throttle actuator.

Both before 37k miles? That’s crazy!
![]() 09/02/2016 at 16:41 |
|
Yeah... First one went at like 25k and the other one just went
![]() 09/02/2016 at 17:43 |

Any idea if BMW has revised the parts to last longer? I hope this isn’t something to look forward to every 30k miles.

That’s a good question I don’t actually know but, I would hope with all the failures they have.
